Mobile Massage
Body Awareness
At Steps to Awareness we use massage to become more in tune with our body. By listening to our body and understanding how it moves, we can increase our awareness and take steps closer to being pain free.
Mobile massage makes it possible to achieve your desired outcome in the comfort of your home or workplace. I will bring all the necessary items to you and offer different services depending on your individual needs.
What to Expect
Arrival
I will arrive with everything necessary for your treatment. You’ll show me where to set up preferably in a room or closed, quiet space.
Health history form
The first consultation you will fill out a health questionnaire and consent form, this enables us to rule out any contraindications to treatment.
Discussion
We will then talk about what you would like out of the treatment and we will decide on a treatment plan. I will also answer any questions you may have. This usually takes about 5 min.
Testing
For remedial therapy I will do some tests to determine what areas to treat and assess the pain or injury. These tests will be done again post treatment and will allow us to see if the treatment improved the problem and was appropriate.
Disrobing
I will then leave the room and give you time to disrobe. Please keep your undergarments on. If you prefer to stay clothed, I can treat you through your clothing. You will then lie on the table and cover yourself with the covering.
The treatment
Relaxation massage employs strokes of varying lengths and speeds depending on the area being treated. Remedial Therapy uses different techniques such as myofacial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, muscle energy techniques as well as cupping to name a few. These are used to help reduce the pain. Sports massage uses the same techniques, however the purpose of the treatment will be tailored to your needs.
Post Treatment
I will leave the room and give you time to rise slowly and move your body. Drink some water and stay hydrated afterwards.
Home Care Advice
When I return we will discuss the progress of the treatment and possible exercises and stretches to perform at home.
Departure
After packing up the massage table and cleaning up, we will take care of the payment. I will then say goodbye and allow you to relax in the comfort of your home.
What is Remdial Massage?
Remedial massage is a rehabilitative or therapeutic modality rather than a relaxing one. Therefore the practice is not limited to massage techniques.
Through physical assessment and orthopaedic testing as well as feedback from you, I will try to find the cause of the pain and propose a plan of action.
Some of the techniques used in treatment include NMT (Neuromuscular technique), PNF (Propriceptive neuromuscular facilitation), MFR (Myofascial release), MET (Muscle energy technique), mobilisation, cupping and therapeutic exercise as well as stretching.
My goal is to target the muscular system, connective tissue, and the nervous system to restore range of motion and help relieve your pain.
Sports Massage
If you're training for an upcoming event or are in need of constant upkeep, sports massage can help keep you tuned up. If your body doesn’t feel right your mind won’t either. We get to the heart of the matter and work deep to break up adhesions and get you moving freely again.
Don’t worry if you are nursing an injury, I’ll work with your physio or trainer to ensure the treatment fits within your rehab plan.
If you're always pushing yourself to achieve your personal best you need a sports therapist on your team.
Relaxation Massage
Relaxation massage is a hands on treatment that is smooth and gentle to promote relaxation, relieve muscular tension and improve circulation and range of movement. The aim of this type of massage is to induce a calming effect and thus limit the effects of the sympathetic nervous system or the fight or flight response.
The sympathetic nervous system is overworked with the chronic stress of modern life. If unchecked this can have lasting effects some of the symptoms are anxiety, panic attacks, nervousness, insomnia, inability to relax, poor digestion, fear and high blood pressure, to name a few. Regular relaxation massage can help calm the nervous system and help you in your daily life.
And what better place to do it then in the comfort of your own home?
